Free leadership training to benefit employers

17th Jun 2009

The Knowledge Hub at the University of Bedfordshire has announced a new project to provide free leadership and management training to employees working for small and medium-sized enterprises.

’Supporting Graduates in Employment' offers businesses the opportunity to train their staff for free through a 12-week course leading to a Certificate in Leadership and Management from the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) at level 5.

Eligible employees need to hold a graduate-level qualification or have equivalent experience and must be resident in Bedfordshire, although their place of work does not have to be in the region.

Aiming to enhance the value of staff to companies in the current economic climate, the training offers an excellent opportunity for participants to expand their skills through practical, business-focused sessions and independent learning. Subjects covered may include personal development as a strategic manager, organisational direction or strategic project management.

Rita Mascia, Business Development Manager at the University’s Knowledge Hub, said: “The training offers a fantastic opportunity for businesses to enrich and transform the way their staff work. It is very well recognised that employees who possess practical business skills add value to their companies and help drive development and growth. The fact that the programme is free and organised in flexible sessions to suit business needs means that employers have nothing to lose and everything to gain by taking part.”

The training available is not exclusive to recent graduates. The course runs in three and a half hour sessions and will be delivered in the early evening to minimise disruption to the working day. The University of Bedfordshire particularly welcomes applications from ethnic minorities, women and candidates with health issues. Some financial support is also available to single parents for childcare.

Supporting Graduates in Employment is co-financed by the European Social Fund in partnership with Bedford Borough Council and Central Bedfordshire Council.
