Bedford College is investing £80 Million in the future of Bedford.
A prestigious new College development will boost business in the town centre and provide fantastic training facilities for companies
countywide.
Situated on Bedford College’s Cauldwell Street site, the new development will be a national showcase of architectural expertise in an area much in need of regeneration - the Southern riverside.
New plans unveiled this weekend (October 21st) have been given a warm welcome by businesses in the neighbourhood. Already the College, which has 14,000 students, adds nearly £60 Million in to the local economy each year. This major capital investment is welcome news at time when other town centre developments have been held up by the credit crunch.
Plans will be submitted in December 2008 and, if approved, work will begin in 2010.
Bedford College Chief Executive Ian Pryce said:
“This an exciting time for Bedford College as we begin this sustainable and eco-friendly project.
“The new buildings will give Bedford College the space and equipment it needs for future generations and complement the South Bank Arts Centre, opened in November 2007, providing students with an inspirational environment in which to study.
“Bedford College is looking to the future with this major redevelopment that will offer the people of Bedfordshire an innovative learning environment for academic and vocational study and build on the College’s outstanding reputation as a centre of excellence in learning.”
